Coco Chanel, birth of a symbol of French chic
Determined to be independent and make her own decisions, Coco Chanel opened her first Parisian shop with the help of a friend in 1910. The success of her simple and sophisticated creations was immediate.
Encouraged by this success, Coco Chanel then began her stylist activity. Chanel wanted to liberate women so that they can be comfortable in their daily life. In the Chanel collections the size disappeared, shapes faded and skirts got shorter. The clothes are much simpler and practical. Coco Chanel mixes male-female codes and adapts materials to everyday life. Several flagship models appear: pyjamas, which can be worn both on the beach and in the evening or the emblematic Chanel suit.
Coco Chanel goes even further and breaks the usual stylistic codes. She then launched the 'little black dress' a colour previously reserved for mourning. After the Second World War, Coco Chanel resumed her activity and launched the style that now symbolises the brand: tweed suit with its four pockets, decorated with jewellery buttons, two-tone shoes and Coco Chanel bag, quilted and with golden chain.
The hallmarks of the brand are elegance and simplicity. Coco Chanel thus launched her jewellery workshop in 1924. She was also the first dressmaker to launch her own perfumes, with the famous Chanel n ° 5 created in 1921. The Chanel perfume quickly gained success just as important as clothing items of their creator.
“Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance” Coco Chanel
Fashion according to Coco Chanel can be summed up in two words: simplicity and elegance. Marked first by the history of its creator, but also by the context of the two world wars, the creations of the Chanel lines seek to liberate women and make them freer to move ... without losing sight of elegance. Her creations are art works, embellished by the jewellery. Symbol of French chic, it’s a whole philosophy that we adopt when wearing Chanel clothing: independence, comfort, elegance.
